Enews Etiquette – Dos and Donts for a great enewsletter
1. DON’T Make your enewsletter wider than 600 pixels - otherwise it may be too big for people to view in their email program without having to scroll left and right and it will chop off part of your message:
2. DO add a link at the top of your email that takes people to an html version of your enewsletter in case they are having trouble reading your email from wtihn their email program.

3. Don’t forget the photos - if you want people to be moved by your story, your story needs some visuals to go with it – improvise if you need to keep people’s identities private.

4. DO use color and graphics that blend well with your overall brand and logo; don’t use the templates in your email management program without changing them in some way- the goal is to STAND OUT!

5. DON’T make it a “Show Me the Money” newsletter - I’m not saying don’t ASK, just don’t make it ONLY about the ask. Use the enews to also communicate your successes and tell your stories – then people are more likely to give.

6. DO give people an opportunity to Get Involved and/or donate with links within your enewsletter to specific pages with more information.

7. DON’T let your header take over all your “above the fold” space; just as you would with your website, make sure you have eye-catching informaiton in that first screenful.

8. DO line up content within the columns to be visually appealing (no big white gaps) and create variation between the sotry layouts – see below for an example of Before Editing (left) and After Editing (right):
